Women's Bible study is
usually held from
10 to 11:30am on the 2nd & 4th Wednesdays each
month in the Upper Room (except November & December, 2nd
Wednesday only). The group is generally led by the
pastor and begins in September. Visitors welcome
any time. Women of all ages are welcome. Visitors welcome
any time. Please join us! Bring your Bible, an open mind, and a yearning
spirit.
On September 10,
2008 at 10:00am, we will hold an organizing meeting of the Women’s Bible
study. We will look at the study material and plan out our year.
We will be
starting the year using the wonderful study of Old Testament women and
their modern counterparts, entitled Just Wives? Stories of Power and
Survival in the Old Testament and Today, by Princeton Old Testament
Professor Emeritus, Katharine Doob Sakenfeld.

For
your private meditation, you might want to follow the daily ecumenical
LECTIONARY lessons (one each from the Old Testament, Psalms, Gospels,
and Epistles). You can read
the Scriptures online or have them delivered automatically every day
by e-mail from the Presbyterian Church website:
http://www.pcusa.org/devotions/lectionary/
If
you read the lessons daily for the three year cycle, you will have
made your way through the whole Bible! Whether you are familiar with
all the Bible stories, or are a newcomer to God’s word, this is a
great way to grow in your faith.

The Monday Night
Adult Study group is open to
community members of all faiths and backgrounds. An eclectic group of church members and friends gather on Monday nights at
7:00–8:30 pm, in the Upper Room during the school year to study and discuss topics
of theological and social significance, often using books, films, or
video series to stimulate in depth consideration and conversation.
Leadership rotates among volunteers from the group.
The
Monday Night Group recently concluded a series on American
Transcendentalism, looking at the work of three superb women writers (Sarah Orne Jewett, Annie Dillard, and
Mary Oliver) on spirit and the environment.
Thanks to Charles Little for producing the series and for his fine
introductory essay—and to Ila L, Bunny B,
and Joy P for anchoring it with able leadership.
Organizing
meeting—September 8, 2008: A chance for all those interested
in the Monday evening book/ discussion group to meet and bring
suggestions of topics/material. What would you like to see explored
this year?
